Why I Chose Costa Rica

So this post is a little behind because I actually went to Costa Rica in January to kick off 2024! But I’ll do my best to recap the highlights of the trip. So I’ll start off with why I chose to go to Costa Rica.

Why I chose Costa Rica:

2023 was a really tough year for me. Actually, that’s an understatement. It was THE toughest year of my life thus far. Like the type of year where you wonder how you survived and thank your lucky stars for your support system, and just making it through.

So around mid-November of 2023, I decided that I was going to do something for me. I was going to take a trip to not only invest in myself, but to prove to myself I could still do it. Was I still the girl who could pack her bags and jet off to a new country by herself and have the time of my life? Or had the blows life dealt me made me fearful of the world? It was time to find out..

I didn’t have a specific country in mind, but I knew I needed something outside of my comfort zone, and something nature-focused. I had heard great things about Costa Rica’s culture, and zen-like natural landscapes, so I figured why not give it a try.

Why I chose G Adventures:

So I wanted an adventure, but I also craved connection, and let’s be honest, I wanted a little structure to my trip. I was busy with work and the holidays, so I gravitated towards the idea of having a mostly planned itinerary that took the guesswork out of where to visit and travel between cities. I looked around at a few travel groups and decided to go with a 9 day Natural Highlights Trip to Costa Rica with G Adventures. It was my first time going solo but with a tour group, and I didn’t know what to expect.

It all turned out…Awesome!

Spoiler alert- that trip turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. This trip helped heal my soul when I needed it most. This was my first solo international trip in well over a decade, and it turned out to be incredible. I hiked for miles through rainforest to see waterfalls and blue lagoons. I walked across hanging bridges above the cloud forest. I zip lined on the longest zip line in Latin America (almost a mile long) about 500 feet high in the clouds. I did a 150 foot free fall Tarzan style jump (still can't believe I did that). I did a night hike in the rainforest. I learned so much about nature and this beautiful country. I tested my limits, put myself in uncomfortable situations, and did things that terrified me that I never thought I was capable of. I found renewed faith in myself. I learned that you can get through difficult situations in life by focusing on your breath and taking things one step at a time. I'm slowly learning how to trust in myself.
